The Iroquois Raiders will head out on the road to challenge the Portland Christian Eagles at 5:45 p.m. on Thursday. Iroquois has now lost nine straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 1.
Iroquois suffered their biggest loss yet this season last Tuesday. They were outmatched by Bullitt Central on the road and fell 77-37. While losing is never fun, Iroquois can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kentucky basketball rankings (they are ranked 252nd, while Bullitt Central is ranked 107th).
Despite the defeat, Iroquois saw an underclassman step up: Maliyah Poindexter scored 21 points. That was a full 56.8% of Iroquois' points, marking the eighth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Meanwhile, Portland Christian was able to grind out a solid victory over Waggener back in December of 2023, taking the game 59-52. The win was just what Portland Christian needed coming off of a 54-31 defeat in their prior game.
Iroquois' defeat was their third straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 2-10. As for Portland Christian, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a massive bump to their 4-7 record this season.
Everything came up roses for Iroquois against Portland Christian in their previous meeting back in November of 2018 as the squad secured a 60-30 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Iroquois since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
