Harris County is on a six-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Northgate is on a five-game streak of away wins (dating back to last season): one of those streaks is about to end. The Harris County Tigers will take on the Northgate Vikings at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Harris County had a rough season last year, but they looks ready to turn that poor record around this year. They blew past Northside 27-7. The result was nothing new for Harris County, who have now won three matchups by 20 points or more so far this season.
Harris County's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mataye Youman, who rushed for 172 yards and a touchdown. The team also got some help courtesy of Levi Watson, who rushed for 105 yards and a touchdown on only 12 carries.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Northside to a paltry 146 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Harris County's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out four times before it was all said and done. Leading the way was Joshua Jones and his two sacks.
Meanwhile, Northgate sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 31-28 win over Northside on Friday.
It was another big night for Evan Garrett, who rushed for 248 yards. Garrett is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last five games he's played. Dylan Barber and his 96 yards on the ground were also a key factor in Northgate's win.
Harris County's win two weeks ago bumped their record up to 6-1. Northgate has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season.
Harris County might still be hurting after the 28-3 loss they got from Northgate in their previous meeting back in October of 2022. Will Harris County have more luck at home instead of on the road?
