Baseball Recap: Lake Placid Has No Trouble Against Crown Point

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Lake Placid walked away with it. They put the hurt on the Crown Point Panthers with a sharp 9-1 win on Thursday. The Bombers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven games by eight runs or more this season.

Jarrett Mihill and Jonathan Caito made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Mihill didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over four innings pitched. Meanwhile, Caito pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Lake Placid is undefeated when Caito allows two or fewer hits, but 3-4 otherwise. At bat, Mihill went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run, while Caito went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run. That's the most hits Mihill has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Hyler Isham, who went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases and two runs. He is becoming a predictor of Lake Placid's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 3-4 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Peyton Baillargeon, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.

Lake Placid kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in six consecutive contests.

Lake Placid's victory bumped their record up to 9-4. As for Crown Point, they dropped their record down to 0-6 with the loss, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Coming up, Lake Placid will head out to square off against Bolton Central at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bombers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Eagles have averaged an impressive 7.2 runs per game this season. Crown Point does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
