Even though Lucerne Valley has not done well against Apple Valley Christian recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way. The stars were shining brightly for Lucerne Valley in a 52-34 win over Apple Valley Christian. That looming 52-34 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Lucerne Valley yet this season.
Among those leading the charge was Derrick Tyler, who scored 15 points along with four steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which he has scored at least 25% of Lucerne Valley's points. Valentin Garibay was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with three steals.
Meanwhile, Excelsior Charter had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 40 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They claimed a resounding 71-28 victory over PAL Academy on the road. Excelsior Charter might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team's won three matchups by 28 points or more this season.
Lucerne Valley's record now sits at 2-6. Excelsior Charter's record is now 4-6.
Lucerne Valley was dealt a bruising 87-45 loss at the hands of Excelsior Charter when the teams last played back in January of 2019. Can Lucerne Valley avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
