The South Granville Vikings will challenge the Oxford Prep Griffins at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a five-game winning streak alive.
Oxford Prep's hitters are going to have their work cut out for them on Monday: South Granville hadn't allowed a single run the last five times they've hit the field. South Granville's pitcher stepped up to hand Durham School of the Arts a 16-0 shutout on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Vikings, who have now won five contests by ten runs or more so far this season.

Chaleigh Currin made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Addisen Goodwin, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That triple was her first of the season. Abigail Shaeffer was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.
South Granville always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .625. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Durham School of the Arts only posted an OBP of .000.
The home team had won the previous three meetings between Oxford Prep and Franklin Academy, and Oxford Prep kept the tradition alive. Oxford Prep was the clear victor by a 10-0 margin over Franklin Academy on Friday. That looming 10-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Griffins yet this season.
The result came thanks to Addyson Faucette's shutout, as she gave up just two hits and racked up 18 Ks. Those 18 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.
On the hitting side, Marleigh Swanner was a standout: she scored four runs and stole five bases while going 2-for-3. Those five stolen bases gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Hailey Crowder, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
South Granville's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-2. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to hits: they averaged an imposing 12 hits in those games compared to only 5.4 in the others. As for Oxford Prep, their record now sits at 5-0.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. South Granville has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Oxford Prep struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
South Granville took their victory against Oxford Prep in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 8-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for South Granville since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
