Basketball Recap: Rocky Mountain Prep SMART Comes Up Short

Rocky Mountain Prep SMART was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They lost 85-59 to the DSST: College View Wolves. While losing is never fun, the Ocelotls can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 314th, while the Wolves are ranked 144th).

When it comes to explaining why Rocky Mountain Prep SMART lost, don't look at Emmanuel Rodriguez-Gonzalez. Despite the final result, he almost dropped a double-double on 21 points and nine rebounds. Rodriguez-Gonzalez has been hot recently, having also posted three or more steals the last three times he's played. Fernando Gurrola-Murillo also deserves some recognition as he pulled down his first boards of the season.

Even though they lost, Rocky Mountain Prep SMART was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in February of 2024.

DSST: College View got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Isaias Tomita out in front who dropped a triple-double on 19 points, ten assists, and ten steals. Alejandro Sandoval was another key player, going 6 of 9 from beyond the arc en route to 20 points and three steals.

Rocky Mountain Prep SMART's defeat dropped their record down to 3-11. As for DSST: College View, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-3.

Rocky Mountain Prep SMART will challenge Denver West at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Denver West will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something Rocky Mountain Prep SMART surely won't give up without a fight. As for DSST: College View, they will face off against Manual at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. DSST: College View is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 67.4 points per game this season.
