On Saturday, the Georgetown Day Mighty Hoppers faced the Banneker Bulldogs in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Georgetown Day skirted past Banneker 64-61. The win was some much needed relief for Georgetown Day as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak.
Abe Badji was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 25 points and 11 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Tigin Unsal, who scored 14 points along with nine rebounds.
When it comes to explaining why Banneker lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jeremiah Shelton. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 30 points and ten rebounds. Shelton has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Doran Clausell, who scored 14 points along with two steals.
Georgetown Day's win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 7-9. As for Banneker, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-5.
Georgetown Day the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome Flint Hill at 5:45 p.m. on January 25th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in their respective states (Flint Hill is ranked seventh in Virginia, while Georgetown Day is ranked 19th in District of Columbia). Banneker on the road again on Monday and play against School Without Walls at 7:00 p.m. on January 22nd.
