The North Hollywood Huskies were the 57-55 winner over the Verdugo Hills Dons when they last played one another back in January of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The match between both teams wasn't particularly close, with North Hollywood falling 60-42. While losing is never fun, they can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 859th, while Verdugo Hills is ranked 394th).
Several Huskies players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Caymen Smith, who scored nine points along with seven rebounds. Another player making a difference was Chase Guillory, who scored six points along with three steals.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Verdugo Hills to victory, but perhaps none more so than Alexander Martinez, who scored 20 points along with seven rebounds and five assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Georges Abdulnour, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 14 rebounds.
North Hollywood has not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-15 record this season. As for Verdugo Hills, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 12-8.
North Hollywood will play host again and welcome Chavez, where tip off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Chavez has now lost nine straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since November 30. Verdugo Hills won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Grant at 5:30 p.m. on January 18th. Hopefully Grant focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 22 last Monday.
