The Vasquez Mustangs will venture away from home to face off against the Fillmore Flashes at 3:00 p.m. on Monday.
Vasquez fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Faith Baptist on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Contenders by a score of 8-7. The Mustangs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Meanwhile, Fillmore got the win against Carpinteria on Thursday by a conclusive 18-1. The result was nothing new for the Flashes, who have now won eight matchups by 11 runs or more so far this season.
Angelica Ruiz made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed five innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. Ruiz was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 5-for-5 with one home run, five runs, and three RBI. What's more, she posted two doubles, the most she's had since back in March.
In other batting news, Arianna Halcon was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Azaria Aguilar was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases and two runs.
Fillmore hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in three consecutive contests.
Fillmore is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-11 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. As for Vasquez, their defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 8-1 and their overall record down to 13-10-1.
Vasquez came up short against Fillmore when the teams last played back in April of 2025, falling 5-2. Can the Mustangs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
