Basketball Recap: Shishmaref Snaps Four-Game Streak of Losses on the Road

Brevig Mission came into Wednesday's matchup looking for another win against Shishmaref, but Elizabeth Kokeok wouldn't allow it. The Shishmaref Northern Lights came out on top against the Brevig Mission Huskies by a score of 60-48 on Wednesday for which the team can thank Kokeok, who posted 18 points along with eight boards and six steals. The game was her fourth in a row with at least 16 points.

The team also got some help courtesy of Bertha Nayokpuk, who almost dropped a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds. That's the most boards she has posted since back in February of 2024.

Shishmaref's win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-10. As for Brevig Mission, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-9 record this season.

Shishmaref won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Shaktoolik at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Shaktoolik knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past seven games -- so hopefully Shishmaref likes a good challenge. Brevig Mission does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
