Gananda Central is on a four-game streak of home wins, while Sodus is on an eight-game streak of away wins (dating back to last season): one of those streaks is about to end. The Blue Panthers will host the Spartans at 4:45 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Gananda Central 1.5, Sodus 2.6) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Gananda Central's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Saturday. They walked away with a 5-0 victory over Red Jacket.
Henry Shutts and Maddox Stoughton were major factors no matter where they played. Throwing, Shutts pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Stoughton kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out eight over 5.1 innings pitched. Shutts has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances. At the plate, Shutts went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and three runs, while Stoughton went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Peter Jacob, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, Sodus made easy work of Williamson on Friday and carried off a 7-1 win. Considering the Spartans have won five matchups by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Wade DeRue spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits.
On the hitting side, Sodus let Gauge Johnson and Evan Laird run wild. Johnson went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run, while Laird went a perfect 4-for-4 with one run and one RBI. That's the most hits Laird has posted since back in May of 2025. Another player making a difference was Carter Salerno, who went 1-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.
Gananda Central's victory bumped their record up to 9-2. As for Sodus, their win bumped their record up to 9-1.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Gananda Central has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 6.3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Sodus struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 4.6 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Everything went Gananda Central's way against Sodus in their previous matchup back in April, as Gananda Central made off with a 13-1 victory. Will the Blue Panthers repeat their success, or do the Spartans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
