Our Lady of Good Counsel is 1-9 against DeMatha since May of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Falcons will head out to challenge the Stags at 4:30 p.m. Our Lady of Good Counsel is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season.
On Monday, Our Lady of Good Counsel didn't have quite enough to beat Bishop O'Connell and fell 4-3.
Curtis Griggs was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed 6.1 innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since April 1st.
On the hitting side, Jack Morin made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple was his first of the season. Ryan Noll was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last matchup, DeMatha made sure to put some runs up on the board against The Heights on Thursday. The Stags blew past The Heights 11-1. The Stags might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight games by seven runs or more this season.
Gabriel Chapman spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on two hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, Johnathan Coombs was incredible, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Brooks Franklin, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
DeMatha is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games. As for Our Lady of Good Counsel, their defeat dropped their record down to 15-10.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Our Lady of Good Counsel has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like DeMatha struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 6.6 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Our Lady of Good Counsel came out on top in a nail-biter against DeMatha when the teams last played on April 1st, sneaking past 2-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Falcons since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
