The Lancaster Legends will square off against the Orchard Park Quakers at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Lancaster is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.6 runs per game this season.
While Lancaster's victory against Williamsville North wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Legends narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Spartans 8-6. The victory continues a trend for the Legends in their matchups with the Spartans: they've now won three in a row.
Ava Konieczny and Brennah DeWald did most of the damage at the plate: Konieczny went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI, while DeWald got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple was DeWald's first of the season. Another player making a difference was Isabella Dimino, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Orchard Park was not the first on the board on Wednesday, but they got there more often. They walked away with a 6-2 win over Clarence.
Reese Politowski was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Those two hits gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sarah Chojnacki, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Ella Hernandez was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and one RBI.
Orchard Park's victory bumped their record up to 9-1. As for Lancaster, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Lancaster has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9 hits per game. However, it's not like Orchard Park struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 3.3 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Lancaster couldn't quite get it done against Orchard Park when the teams last played back in April as they fell 7-4. Will the Legends have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
