Basketball Recap: West Oso Drops Highest Score of Season Against Mathis

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask West Oso). They really took it to the Mathis Pirates for the full four quarters, racking up an 86-9 victory. The Bears have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 11 contests by 21 points or more this season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead West Oso to victory, but perhaps none more so than Malaigha Sweats, who went 11 of 13 on her way to 27 points in addition to five rebounds and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Jae'La Hicks, who went 8 for 10 on her way to 20 points in addition to seven boards and five blocks.

Mathis lost on Tuesday despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Kailey Garcia, who posted four points and ten rebounds. Garcia is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down nine or more in the last four games she's played.

West Oso has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 18-5 record this season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 50.2 points. As for Mathis, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-7.

Coincidentally, West Oso and Mathis will both be playing Aransas Pass the next time they take the court. West Oso will head out to face Aransas Pass at 1:15 p.m. on Friday, while Mathis will host them at 6:15 p.m. on January 7th.
