Basketball Recap: Wake Prep Academy Falls Despite Big Games from Zanasha Bolden and Olivia Langton

If Wake Prep Academy was riding high fresh off their 64-35 takedown of Oxford Prep last Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Wake Prep Academy Guardians took a 44-39 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Neuse Charter Cougars. While losing is never fun, the Guardians can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 219th, while the Cougars are ranked 105th).

Wake Prep Academy's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Olivia Langton, who posted 12 points and six steals, and Zanasha Bolden, who had 16 points and four steals. Bolden is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Chelsea Lange, who earned four points and four steals.

Neuse Charter's win on Wednesday was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Cayley Cochran, who posted 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Yedidia Tsolenyanu, who had 16 points.

Wake Prep Academy moved to 5-2 with that loss, which also ended their four-game winning streak. As for Neuse Charter, their win bumped their record up to 10-2.

Wake Prep Academy and St. Thomas More Academy will compete for holiday cheer at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (St. Thomas More Academy has won three straight at home, while Wake Prep Academy won three straight on the road), something that'll have to change. As for Neuse Charter, they will welcome Lejeune at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Neuse Charter is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.8 points per game this season.
