Even though the University Prep Panthers have not done well against the Foothill Cougars recently (they were 0-8 in their previous eight matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. In a tight contest that could have gone either way, University Prep made off with a 55-54 victory over Foothill. For University Prep, this counts as revenge for the 47-34 loss Foothill walked away with the last time they faced one another back in January.
University Prep's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Scott Steffan, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 10 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Devin Huegel, who scored 14 points along with 8 rebounds and 4 steals.
Foothill's lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Trace Farrelly, who scored 10 points. Another player making a difference was Tyler Zanhiser, who scored 10 points along with 7 rebounds.
The win got University Prep back to even at 1-1. As for Foothill, they now have a losing record at 1-2.
University Prep will head out on the road to face off against Enterprise at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. Enterprise presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than University Prep in California (Enterprise is ranked 139th, while University Prep is ranked 450th). Foothill is on the road again on Saturday and play against West Valley at 11:00 a.m. on December 2nd. Hopefully West Valley focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 21 on Friday.
