Hickory and Great Bridge are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. The Hawks will venture away from home to face off against the Wildcats at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Hickory is coming into the contest hot, having won their last four games.
Hickory had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 18-run drubbing they dealt King's Fork on Thursday. The Hawks put the hurt on the Bulldogs with a sharp 22-4 win. The result was nothing new for the Hawks, who have now won six matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Tommy Blackburn looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one hit in six consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Brayden Bachman, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Cory Pasiliao, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs.
Hickory kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Great Bridge entered their game against Western Branch on Thursday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Wildcats lost 9-2 to the Bruins. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Wildcats have suffered since May 24, 2024.
Great Bridge saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cole Cinnamomd, who went 2-for-3 with one run.
Hickory's record now sits at 8-4. As for Great Bridge, their defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 6-1 and their overall record down to 8-5.
Hickory might still be hurting after the 8-1 loss they got from Great Bridge when the teams last played on April 10th. Can the Hawks avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
