The Springfield Catholic Fighting Irish will square off against the Jasper Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
Springfield Catholic is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Fair Grove just ended the team's ten-game winning streak on Friday. They took a 12-9 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Eagles.
Meanwhile, Jasper never let their opponents score on Friday. They put the hurt on Rich Hill with a sharp 20-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won six contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Calley Helms was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Jasper got a massive performance out of Chloe Storm, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Aspen Lehman, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base.
Jasper was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .529. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Rich Hill only posted a batting average of .200.
Jasper is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-10 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.4 runs over those games. As for Springfield Catholic, their defeat dropped their record down to 16-5.
Springfield Catholic got the 'W' in their previous matchup back in April of 2025 against Jasper by a conclusive 16-5 score. Do the Fighting Irish have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Eagles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
