Chaparral and Legend are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2016, but likely not for long. The Wolverines will square off against the Titans at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Chaparral is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.9 runs per game this season.
Chaparral is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Colorado's top teams: Mountain Vista, who was ranked 19th at the time (Chaparral was ranked 18th). The Wolverines lost 11-4 to the Golden Eagles on Saturday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Wolverines have suffered against the Golden Eagles since May 10, 2019.
Beckett Bacon was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He struck out six batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in April. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
Bacon wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Colton Pamenter, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases. Another was Tommy Humphrey, who went 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
Legend let Castle View stack five runs on them in the fourth inning on Monday but luckily Legend prevailed anyway. The Titans came out on top against the Sabercats by a score of 9-6. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Titans.
Like Chaparral, Legend also got a great game from a two-way player: Jacob Combest. On the mound, he tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. Combest has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and four RBI. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Silas Meuli, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. He has become a key player for Legend: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 3-10 otherwise. Jacob Fladebo also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
Legend now has a winning record of 11-10. As for Chaparral, their loss dropped their record down to 14-7.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Chaparral has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.1 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Legend struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Chaparral couldn't quite finish off Legend in their previous matchup back in May of 2025 and fell 5-3. Can the Wolverines avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
