Basketball Recap: Deymian Than's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Arvada over the Pinnacle

Arvada was the 61-60 winner over The Pinnacle when they last played one another back in January of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Arvada Bulldogs fell 63-50 to The Pinnacle Timberwolves on Thursday.

Several Bulldogs players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Deymian Than, who went 6 of 14 en route to 17 points and five assists. The game was Than's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Ozias Garrett, who posted nine points in addition to seven boards and three steals.

Than wasn't the only one working in the assists department: Arvada was working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

It was another big night for Caleb Arellano, who almost dropped a double-double on 24 points and nine steals for The Pinnacle. Arellano has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last six times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Joseph Trujillo, who went 5 for 10 on his way to 14 points along with eight assists and four steals.

Arvada's defeat was their eighth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 1-12. As for The Pinnacle, their victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 7-2.

Arvada will challenge Fort Lupton at 7:00 p.m. on January 23rd. As for The Pinnacle, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 66-55 win against Platte Canyon on the 21st.
