This season hasn't been kind to the Long Shoals Wesleyan Academy Crusaders, who are still winless after their seventh game. They were dealt a 74-27 loss at the hands of Veritas Christian Academy on Thursday. While losing is never fun, Long Shoals Wesleyan Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 675th, while Veritas Christian Academy is ranked 240th).
When it comes to explaining why Long Shoals Wesleyan Academy lost, one person who can't be blamed is Josiah Whitmire. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 24 points and ten rebounds. That was a full 88.9% of Long Shoals Wesleyan Academy's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jonathon Gee, who scored three points along with six assists and two steals.
Veritas Christian Academy was led to victory by Ashton Dillon and Eli Robbins. Dillon scored 25 points, while Robbins scored 25 points. Dillon is absolutely dominating the point category: he's posted at least 15 every time he's taken the court this season. Lee Burgess was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Long Shoals Wesleyan Academy's loss was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 0-7. As for Veritas Christian Academy, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 9-4.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Long Shoals Wesleyan Academy will take on Lake Lure Classical Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Veritas Christian Academy won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Christian Family Academy at 6:00 p.m. on January 12th. Christian Family Academy is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
