Even though the Lincoln North Star Navigators scored an imposing 68 points on Saturday, the Gretna Dragons still came out on top. Gretna secured a 72-68 W over Lincoln North Star. Given Gretna's advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 29th, while Lincoln North Star is ranked 116th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Gretna got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Kade Cook out in front who scored 17 points along with five assists. The game was Cook's fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Alex Wilcoxson, who scored 16 points along with seven rebounds.
Several Navigators players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Lazerek Houston, who scored 18 points along with seven assists. Houston scored a full 26.5% of Lincoln North Star's points, the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was JaKeyce Fowler, who scored 17 points along with five rebounds.
Gretna has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-2 record this season. As for Lincoln North Star, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-4.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Gretna will take on Millard North at TBD on Thursday. Millard North is looking to tack on another W to their three-game streak on the road. As for Lincoln North Star, they will be playing at home against Lincoln East at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Lincoln East has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 188 points over their last three contests.
