Baseball Recap: Dunkirk Takes Down Maryvale in a Playoff Battle

It's playoff time, and Dunkirk had no trouble coming through when it counted. They blew past the Maryvale Flyers 12-3 on Tuesday. Considering the Marauders have won ten contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Josh Lemanski and Greg Orcutt were major factors no matter where they played. Throwing, Lemanski pitched 4.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Meanwhile, Orcutt tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one hit in four consecutive appearances. At bat, Lemanski went 1-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base, while Orcutt went 1-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Paul Trippy was incredible, going 3-for-5 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI. Gabe Valentine was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.

Dunkirk kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Maryvale only managed five hits.

Dunkirk's victory was their eighth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 18-3. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Maryvale, with the loss, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 16-6.

Dunkirk didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 2-1 victory against Lewiston-Porter on the 29th. Maryvale does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
