Lexington hasn't had much luck against LeRoy recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Minutemen will square off against the Panthers at 2:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
LeRoy will challenge a team with plenty of momentum: Lexington extended their winning streak to three on Wednesday. The Minutemen were the clear victors by an 8-2 margin over Olympia.
The team relied heavily on Jaxson Goodrich, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That stolen base marked the first that he has snagged this season. Another player making a difference was Braeden Barber, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
Lexington hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, LeRoy made easy work of Hoopeston on Thursday and carried off a 9-2 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Panthers.
Brock Owens made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off eight hits (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI.
In other batting news, Braeden Fox was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Kobe Brent was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Lexington pushed their record up to 14-10 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for LeRoy, their win bumped their record up to 18-8.
Lexington skirted past LeRoy 11-9 in their previous meeting back in April. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Minutemen since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
