The Franklin Community Grizzly Cubs will venture away from home to challenge the Greenwood Woodmen at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Franklin Community is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7 runs per game this season.
Franklin Community took a 13-run defeat the last time they faced off against Martinsville, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Grizzly Cubs came out on top in a nail-biter against the Artesians on Wednesday, sneaking past 3-1. The victory was some much needed relief for the Grizzly Cubs as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
Bryleigh Carlisle-Haltom spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Franklin Community saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Adeline Blackwell, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.
Franklin Community hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are 6-3 when they post two or more strikeouts.
Meanwhile, Greenwood posted their closest win since April 12th on Monday. They had just enough and edged out Tri-West Hendricks 3-2.
Breianna Harlow was excellent, going 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Kinsley Clark, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one run and one double.
Franklin Community now has a winning record of 10-9. As for Greenwood, their record now sits at 6-14.
Greenwood's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Franklin Community has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.6 hits per game. It's a different story for Greenwood, though, as they've been averaging 9.8 hits. Given Franklin Community's sizable advantage in that area, the Woodmen will need to find a way to close that gap.
Franklin Community took their victory against Greenwood when the teams last played back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 16-4 score. Will the Grizzly Cubs repeat their success, or do the Woodmen have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
