Softball Recap: Centerburg Takes a Loss

Centerburg was the 14-3 winner over Highland when they last played one another back in April of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The Trojans fell 9-5 to the Fighting Scots on Saturday. The Trojans have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Abby Herren put in work no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-4.

In other batting news, Lexi Moore was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Jazmyn Larimore, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

The defeat was their first on the road , dropping their record down to 6-4. As for Highland, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 7-3.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Centerburg will square off against Danville at 5:15 p.m. on Monday. As for Highland, they will head out to challenge Buckeye Valley at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The Barons' pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so the Fighting Scots' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
