Basketball Recap: Auburndale Skates Past Lake Gibson with Ease

There's no place like home for Auburndale, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Thursday. They claimed a resounding 60-16 victory over the Lake Gibson Braves. The Bloodhounds have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven games by 23 points or more this season.

Leading Auburndale to victory were Makyla Jones and Aleecia Pollard. Jones dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten steals, while Pollard dropped a double-double on 24 points and 12 boards. Pollard is becoming a predictor of Auburndale's success: when she posts at least ten rebounds the team is undefeated (and 6-7 when she doesn't). Journey Cummings was another key player, putting up eight points.

Lake Gibson's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Shania Benjamin, who posted six points.

Auburndale is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 9-7 record this season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 42.8 points. As for Lake Gibson, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-10.

Auburndale didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 37-29 win against Sebring on the 23rd. Lake Gibson has also already played their next game, a 48-45 defeat against Bartow on the 23rd.
