After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Jefferson Christian Academy, the Roanoke Catholic Celtics were happy to have found some success on Tuesday. They walked away with a 44-37 victory over Grace Christian. The win was all the more spectacular given Roanoke Catholic's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 236th, while Grace Christian is ranked 102nd).
Mickie O?Herron continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 21 points and 11 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Roanoke Catholic's points. Amara Ezigbo was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Several Warriors players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Aubrey Greenmun, who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds. Another player making a difference was Lucy Wells, who scored five points along with seven rebounds and six blocks.
Roanoke Catholic's victory bumped their record up to 5-6. As for Grace Christian, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 11-3.
Roanoke Catholic will be playing at home against Southwest Virginia HomeSchool at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Grace Christian will take on Ridgeview Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The timing is sure in Grace Christian's favor as the squad sits on five straight wins at home while Ridgeview Christian has been banged up by four consecutive losses on the road.
