The Point Pleasant Boro Panthers waltzed into their contest on Saturday with two straight wins but they left with three. They walked away with a 58-48 win over South River. Given Point Pleasant Boro's advantage in MaxPreps' New Jersey basketball rankings (they are ranked 128th, while South River is ranked 324th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
When it comes to explaining why South River lost, one person who can't be blamed is Alex Grospe. Despite the final result, he scored 31 points along with four steals. That was a full 64.6% of South River's points, marking the fourth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Eddie Herrera, who scored eight points.
Point Pleasant Boro's win was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-3. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.1 points per game. As for South River, their loss dropped their record down to 5-7.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Point Pleasant Boro will take on Long Branch at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Long Branch comes in still looking for their first win of the season. As for South River, they will be playing at home against Metuchen at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
