The Northfield Norsemen will challenge the Cowan Blackhawks at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Northfield is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. They blew past Daleville 10-3. Winning may never get old, but the Norsemen sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
Caleb Dubois made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in 11 consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kam Pratt, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Branson Hayslett was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
Northfield kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are 7-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Cowan never let their opponents score on Saturday. Everything went their way against Southern Wells as they made off with a 10-0 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Blackhawks.
Like Northfield, Cowan also got a great game from a two-way player: Thomas Brooks. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over four innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts Brooks has posted since back in April. He was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one run.
In other batting news, Jaydon Auker was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Northfield's record is now 13-16. As for Cowan, the victory got them back to even at 11-11.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Northfield has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Cowan struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
