Softball Recap: Breese Central's Losing Streak Snapped at Eight Games

Breese Central had to endure an eight-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They were the clear victors by a 20-10 margin over the Woodlawn Cardinals on Saturday. The Cougars' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Breese Central let Cece Toennies and Claire Albers run wild. Toennies scored four runs while going 4-for-4, while Albers scored three runs while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. That's the most runs Albers has posted since back in April of 2024. Kate Johnson was another key player, scoring four runs while going 2-for-5.

Breese Central was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. They are 2-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Breese Central picked up their first road win, bumping their record up to 3-10. As for Woodlawn, their defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 4-6.

Looking ahead, Breese Central will square off against Christ Our Rock Lutheran at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Silver Stallions' pitching crew has only allowed 1.8 runs per game this season, so the Cougars' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Woodlawn, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 15-5 loss against Farina South Central on the 12th.
