Aiken is 2-8 against North Augusta since February of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Aiken Fighting Green Hornets will head out on the road to challenge the North Augusta Yellow Jackets at 7:30 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the pair posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Last Tuesday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Aiken beat South Aiken 64-60. Given Aiken's advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 77th, while South Aiken is ranked 205th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, North Augusta entered their tilt with Midland Valley with five consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with six. North Augusta blew past Midland Valley 80-33 at home on Tuesday. North Augusta pushed the score to 68-25 by the end of the third, a deficit Midland Valley had no chance of recovering from.
Aiken's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-10. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.7 points per game. As for North Augusta, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 18-7 record this season.
Things could have been worse for Aiken, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 56-42 loss to North Augusta when the teams last played two weeks ago. Can Aiken avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
