After a string of three wins, the Grand Valley Mustangs's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They took a 35-29 hit to the loss column at the hands of Crestwood. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Grand Valley came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 127th, while Crestwood is ranked 524th).
Crestwood was led to victory by Abby Guyette and Livia Martini. Guyette scored 4 points along with 8 steals and 7 rebounds, while Martini scored 8 points along with 7 steals. Guyette is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Lilly O'Bryant, who scored 4 points along with 7 rebounds and 3 steals.
Grand Valley's loss dropped their record down to 3-2. As for Crestwood, their win bumped their record up to 2-3.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Grand Valley's road trip will continue as they head out to face Berkshire at 6:45 p.m. on December 12th. As for Crestwood, they will square off against Cardinal at 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Cardinal comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
