Emilyn Nay was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs. Those two runs gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lexi Falcioni, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Alia Martone was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
North Branford was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .556. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Valley Regional fell victim to Haddam-Killingworth and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They fell just short of the Cougars by a score of 2-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Warriors have suffered since April 16th.
Paige Williams spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on five hits and racked up seven Ks.
North Branford pushed their record up to 12-0 with the win, which was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.3 runs over those games. As for Valley Regional, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-6.
Valley Regional's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: North Branford hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .397. It's a different story for Valley Regional, though, as they've only averaged .257. Will they be able to contain North Branford's hitters?
Everything went North Branford's way against Valley Regional in their previous matchup back in April, as North Branford made off with a 12-0 win. Will the Thunderbirds repeat their success, or do the Warriors have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
