There wasn't a ton of movement in the power rankings this week, but there was certainly enough to keep things interesting. A special shoutout goes to Somerville's senior Jalahn Dabney, who scored five total touchdowns in the team's most recent match.
Welcome
Even if it wasn't quite the margin the team was expecting, Middletown South's contest against Toms River North still finished up like the MaxPreps state rankings predicted. Middletown South can thank its lucky stars for its win over Toms River North. The final score was a hard-fought 14 - 13. Middletown South and Toms River North were a much more even match than Middletown South's previous opponent, giving the fans a heck of a game. The win also thrust Middletown South into the power rankings, where the team now holds the 25th spot.
Can't Touch This
Even though St. Anthony's was bested by Archbishop Spalding 43 - 42 last week, St. Anthony's's senior Greg Campisi played one heck of a game. He rushed for 115 yards and three touchdowns. In fact, our algorithms singled out Campisi as one of the top players in the power rankings for the week.
This Week's Big Showdown
One of last week's main attractions was the confrontation between St. Joseph Regional and Bergen Catholic, 4th and 1st in the power rankings, respectively. St. Joseph Regional had a chance to win but let Bergen Catholic get away with a 24 - 20 victory. Despite the outcome, St. Joseph Regional can look to its five-sack defensive performance as a definite plus, positive energy it will want to mobilize against teamOpponentInGame OI: U:c124993f-cb4a-4bcc-96b6-55f913376606St. Joseph Regional OI: U:25d76ee7-69f1-4da1-8a62-840e69a8de12.
Next Week's Big Game
If you are itching to watch a first-rate contest, no game is supposed to fit the bill better than the one between Half Hollow Hills West (24th in the power rankings) and Westhampton Beach (14th). Both teams are entering with last-week wins under their belts. Both the Westhampton Beach and Half Hollow Hills West defenses have allowed few points this year (averaging 11 ppg and 11 ppg, respectively), so the teams might find scoring more difficult than usual this week.
