The Central Davidson Spartans had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 14 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. They blew past Asheboro 61-27 on the road. Given Central Davidson's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 144th, while Asheboro is ranked 426th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Central Davidson's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Raegan McCarn led the charge by scoring 17 points. Another player making a difference was Carlee Shoaf, who scored 13 points.
Central Davidson is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season. As for Asheboro, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-12.
Central Davidson will be playing in front of their home fans against Oak Grove at 6:00 p.m. on January 19th. Oak Grove is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune. As for Asheboro, they will head out on the road to face off against Montgomery Central at 6:00 p.m. on January 19th. The timing is sure in Montgomery Central's favor as the squad sits on six straight wins at home while Asheboro has been banged up by ten consecutive losses on the road dating back to last season.
