The Mesa Ridge Grizzlies's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their fifth straight loss. They fell 56-48 to Widefield. Mesa Ridge was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Widefield apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January.
When it comes to explaining why Mesa Ridge lost, one person who can't be blamed is Bray Pelt. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 25 points and 12 rebounds. That was a full 52.1% of Mesa Ridge's points, marking the fifth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Maya Warriax, who scored nine points along with two steals.
Widefield found their leader in underclassman Isabella Monk, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 14 rebounds. Monk hasn't dropped below two steals for 17 straight games. Zariah Ortiz was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with three steals.
Mesa Ridge has traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-13 record this season. As for Widefield, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season.
Mesa Ridge will be playing in front of their home fans against Falcon at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Falcon knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past four matchups -- so hopefully Mesa Ridge likes a good challenge. As for Widefield, they will look to defend their home court on Saturday against Palmer at 1:00 p.m. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Colorado (Widefield is ranked 146th, while Palmer is ranked 162nd).
