The Westside Seminoles's game last Tuesday was a tough loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Wednesday. They pulled ahead with a 49-48 photo finish over Northeast. Given Westside's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 166th, while Northeast is ranked 503rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Westside got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Joshua Harden out in front who scored 13 points along with eight rebounds and four steals. Christian Little was another key contributor, scoring 14 points.
Despite the defeat, Northeast had strong showings from Jatavion Zellner, who scored 20 points along with two steals, and Amani Brown, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds and two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Zion Paul, who scored five points along with six rebounds.
Westside has been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 13 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 13-6 record this season. As for Northeast, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-15.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Westside will take on Perry at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Perry and Westside are at an even 4-4 over their past eight head-to-heads. As for Northeast, Northeast and Rutland will face off at 7:30 p.m. on January 19th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Rutland is coming into the match hot, having won their last three games.
