The Hattiesburg Tigers entered their tilt with the Richton Rebels with seven consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with eight. Hattiesburg put the hurt on Richton with a sharp 60-38 victory on Thursday. Given Hattiesburg's advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 15th, while Richton is ranked 123rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Hattiesburg's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Christian Moody, who scored 16 points along with four steals. That's the first time this season that Moody scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Logan Burns, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 13 rebounds.
Hattiesburg pushed their record up to 13-1 with that victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.5 points per game. As for Richton, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 12-5 record this season.
Hattiesburg won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Sumrall at 7:30 p.m. on December 29th. Sumrall is coming into the game hot, having won their last eight games. Richton's road trip will continue as they head out to face Mize at 7:30 p.m. on January 4, 2024.
