The Schley County Wildcats will head out to challenge the Wilcox County Patriots at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Schley County had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Telfair County last Friday. The Wildcats' pitchers stepped up to hand the Trojans a 10-0 shutout. The Wildcats haven't had any issues with the Trojans recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.
Meanwhile, it's playoff time, and Wilcox County had no trouble coming through when it counted. Everything went their way against Bryan County on Thursday as they made off with a 14-6 win. The victory was nothing new for the Patriots as they're now sitting on three straight.
Johnny Nutt made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Nutt was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Bo Bloodworth, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Deacon McDuffie was another key player, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Wilcox County hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in four consecutive matches.
Wilcox County's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 20-7. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.7 runs over those games. As for Schley County, their record now sits at 17-11.
Schley County skirted past Wilcox County 5-4 in their previous meeting back in May of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wildcats since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
