Ursuline Academy and Bishop Lynch are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. The Bears will square off against the Friars at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with four consecutive losses for Ursuline Academy and nine for Bishop Lynch.
On Tuesday, Ursuline Academy didn't have quite enough to beat Prestonwood Christian and fell 7-6.
Leah Drake spent all 10.2 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and six unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up ten Ks.
At the plate, Brenly Fink was cooking despite her team's loss, going 4-for-5 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI. Audrina Arata also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, Bishop Lynch came up short against Prestonwood Christian on Monday, falling 11-1.
Faith Peterson put in work while hitting and pitching. She pitched two innings while giving up just one earned run but no hits. What's more, she gave up only one walk, the fewest she's had since back in April of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with three stolen bases. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played.
Peterson wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Kylie Love, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.
Ursuline Academy now has a losing record of 5-6. As for Bishop Lynch, their record now sits at 5-13.
Bishop Lynch's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Wednesday. Ursuline Academy has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.5 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Bishop Lynch, though, as they've been averaging only 3.1 strikeouts. Will Ursuline Academy keep running through batters, or will the Friars buck the trend?
Ursuline Academy was able to grind out a solid victory over Bishop Lynch in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, winning 13-10. Will the Bears repeat their success, or do the Friars have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
