Lake City is on a five-game streak of home losses, Lakewood a three-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck is about to change. The Lake City Panthers will take on the Lakewood Gators at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
Lake City suffered their biggest defeat yet this season on Wednesday. They were outmatched by Camden at home and fell 85-20. Lake City has not had much luck with Camden recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.
Despite their loss, Lake City saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Hannah Riles, who scored 12 points, was perhaps the best of all. Another player making a difference was Jayda Burgess, who scored six points along with six rebounds.
Meanwhile, Lakewood scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Wednesday. They strolled past Marlboro County with points to spare, taking the game 58-44. The win was just what Lakewood needed coming off of a 99-25 loss in their prior matchup.
Lakewood can attribute much of their success to Kenyria Butler, who scored 14 points, and Zakiya Hodge, who scored 20 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Butler has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Makayla Cisse, who scored eight points.
Lake City has been struggling recently, as they've lost six of their last seven matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-11 record this season. As for Lakewood, their victory bumped their record up to 6-10.
