Mt. Hope can't be to happy about their upcoming road game considering what happened when they opened their season on the away from home on Friday. They were dealt a 38-6 defeat at the hands of Classical.
Mt. Hope might have lost, but man, Jerry Pimental was a machine: he rushed for 153 yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Ponaganset took care of business in their home opener on Friday (and then some). They claimed a resounding 35-0 win over East Greenwich at home. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as the Chieftains just coasted through the last quarter.
A big part of the victory came down to the chemistry between Robert Grenga and his top target Trevor Lytle. Grenga threw for 136 yards and two touchdowns on only nine passes while Lytle picked up 116 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Lytle's longest reception was for an impressive 56 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per catch total.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Ponaganset was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 221 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as East Greenwich only rushed for 40.
