Baseball Game Preview: Coeur d'Alene Vikings vs. Post Falls Trojans

For the second straight game, Coeur d'Alene will face off against Post Falls. The Vikings will be playing in front of their home fans against the Trojans at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. Coeur d'Alene is coming into the contest hot, having won their last four games.

Coeur d'Alene barely beat Post Falls the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Vikings were the clear victors by a 13-3 margin over the Trojans on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Vikings, who have now won four matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.

Harrison Trunkey-Evans made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in May of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base.

In other batting news, Kolbe Coey was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Gavin Helms, who scored two runs while going 2-for-2.

Coeur d'Alene was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .409. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .310 or higher in six consecutive games.

Coeur d'Alene pushed their record up to 8-1 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Post Falls, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season.
