The Frontier Regional Red Hawks are taking a road trip to take on the Southwick Regional Rams at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Frontier Regional is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.7 runs per game this season.
On Tuesday, Frontier Regional got the win against Taconic by a conclusive 8-1. The win continues a trend for the Red Hawks in their matchups with the Thunder: they've now won four in a row.
Raine Wonsey made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching seven innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with four RBI and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Delaney 'Lu' Fifield, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. She continues to improve, besting her previous run total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Liv Machon, who went 3-for-5 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Frontier Regional kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Southwick Regional came up short against Sabis International on Monday, falling 18-2. The Rams have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Frontier Regional's record now sits at 7-4. As for Southwick Regional, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-7.
Wednesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Frontier Regional hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .336. However, it's not like Southwick Regional struggles in that department as they've averaged .326. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Frontier Regional's way against Southwick Regional when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Frontier Regional made off with a 25-2 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Red Hawks since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
