The Summit Tigers came tearing into Friday's matchup with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15.7 points) and they left with even more momentum. Everything went their way against Rifle as Summit made off with a 50-29 win. Summit pushed the score to 36-13 by the end of the third, a deficit Rifle cut but never quite recovered from.
Summit was led to victory by Kayla Smith and Doussouba Sylla. Smith scored 11 points along with six rebounds, while Sylla scored ten points along with seven rebounds and five steals. Another player making a difference was Avery Eytel, who scored a point along with eight rebounds and five steals.
Blayke Hostettler and Brylee Alcantar certainly did their best on Friday to try and avoid the loss. Hostettler dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 rebounds, while Alcantar scored 11 points.
Rifle struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Summit racked up 12 assists.
Summit is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 8-7 record this season. As for Rifle, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-13.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Summit will square off against Delta at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. Delta will be looking to extend their current ten-game winning streak. As for Rifle, they will head out on the road to square off against Moffat County at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Moffat County focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Friday.
