The Christ the King Royals came tearing into Tuesday's contest with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.8 points) and they left with even more momentum. They strolled past Holy Cross with points to spare, taking the game 62-46. Given Christ the King's advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked first, while Holy Cross is ranked 258th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Holy Cross' loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Avery Taitt-Christina, who scored ten points along with six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Jahzir Crawford, who scored nine points along with six rebounds.
Christ the King pushed their record up to 9-1 with that victory, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.2 points per game. As for Holy Cross, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-8 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Christ the King will face off against East Catholic at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Holy Cross' road trip will continue as they head out to face Mt. St. Michael Academy at 4:00 p.m. on January 17th.
