The Macon-East Montgomery Academy Knights's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their fifth straight loss. They suffered a tough 65-42 loss at the hands of Springwood. While losing is never fun, Macon-East Montgomery Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 311th, while Springwood is ranked 44th).
Macon-East Montgomery Academy's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Keagan Roney, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 13 rebounds, and Jacob Johnson who scored 16 points. Roney has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last four times he's played.
Even though they lost, Macon-East Montgomery Academy were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Springwood only pulled down 23 offensive rebounds.
It was another big night for Micah Thomas, who scored 33 points along with six rebounds and five steals for Springwood. The contest was Thomas' 11th in a row with at least ten points. CJ Johnson was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with five steals.
Macon-East Montgomery Academy bumped their record down to 3-6 with that defeat, which was their third straight at home. As for Springwood, the victory (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 10-1.
Macon-East Montgomery Academy will head out on the road to face off against Autauga Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Springwood will be home for the holidays to greet Trinity Christian at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
