After four games on the road, Sterling is heading back home. They will be home for the holidays to greet the Mead Raiders at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Sterling will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Nebraska Rankings (they are ranked 269th, while Mead is ranked 75th).
Sterling struggled with offensive rebounds on Tuesday (Johnson-Brock had ten more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Sterling was beaten by Johnson-Brock 71-24. Sterling was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 41-20.
Brody Horstman was Sterling's leading scorer, having posted eight points.
Callen Mcauliffe held things down on the boards with three rebounds.
Meanwhile, Mead had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 34.7 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Brownell Talbot 74-33 at home. The result was nothing new for Mead, who have now won four matches by 31 points or more so far this season.
Sterling bumped their record down to 0-7 with that loss, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 27.9 points per game. As for Mead, their win bumped their record up to 4-1.
Sterling was dealt a bruising 63-35 defeat at the hands of Mead when the teams last played back in January. The matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point Sterling was down 39-16.
