Softball Recap: Andrean Wins Going Away Against Whiting

Andrean had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They were the clear victors by a 12-0 margin over the Whiting Oilers on Tuesday. Considering the Fighting 59ers have won 11 games by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Andrean got a great performance from Cheyenne Sammons as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over five innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave Sammons a new career-high in strikeouts (four).

On the hitting side, Maggie Voliva was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Jayci Alba was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Andrean kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Whiting only managed two hits.

Andrean is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Whiting, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-11.

As of now, neither Andrean nor the Oilers have any future games scheduled.
